Iphone 14 magsafe Wireless charging test

Apple develops the MagSafe magnetic wireless charging feature for iPhones starting from the iPhone 12. They also launched various accessories such as magnetic protective cases and magnetic chargers. Currently, the iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, and the new iPhone 14 series all support precise alignment magnetic wireless charging.

But how does the actual performance of the iPhone 14 series phones with the original MagSafe wireless charger compare?

Product Introduction

Let’s start with a clear comparison. The iPhone 14 series consists of four models, from left to right: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Unfortunately, there is no mini model this year. In terms of the camera module, the iPhone 14 Pro series is larger, allowing for more incoming light and equipped with a brand-new optical sensor. While the iPhone 14 and Plus models have a similar appearance to the iPhone 13 Pro main camera, they differ in terms of internal software and hardware.

Entering the internal settings to view the system information of the iPhone 14 series, it is launched with the all-new iOS 16 system. The notch of the iPhone 14 and Plus models has been slightly reduced compared to the previous generation, and only the Pro series has a “Dynamic Island” design for the notch, which Apple claims provides a more interesting interactive experience. (Only the iPhone 14 has True Tone display enabled, so the color tone is slightly warmer.)

Charging Test

Previously, We conducted a detailed charging test on the entire iPhone 14 series, with the highest power reaching nearly 27W.

Using the original 35W Apple charger (A2676) to test the wireless charging of the iPhone 14, the measured power output of the charger is 8.92V 1.99A 17.73W.

Similarly, the measured power output of the charger for the iPhone 14 Plus is 8.91V 2.13A 18.96W.

Similarly, the measured power output of the charger for the iPhone 14 Pro Max is 8.91V 2.15A 19.18W.

Full Charging Test

First, let’s look at the full charging data for the iPhone 14.

When connected to the magnetic module, the handshake voltage is 9V. The power fluctuates between 6-19W before 1 hour and 4 minutes. At 1 hour and 8 minutes, the power stabilizes at around 7W. After 1 hour and 30 minutes, it enters trickle charging until fully charged, taking approximately 1 hour and 52 minutes for the entire charging process.

Now let’s take a look at the charging data for the iPhone 14 Pro.

iPhone 14 Pro

When connected to the magnetic module, the handshake voltage is 9V. The power remains stable between 10-18W for the first hour. At 1 hour and 4 minutes, the power stabilizes at around 7W. After 1 hour and 25 minutes, it enters trickle charging until fully charged, taking approximately 1 hour and 53 minutes for the entire charging process.

Next, let’s examine the charging data for the iPhone 14 Plus.

When connected to the magnetic module, the handshake voltage is 9V. The power remains stable at around 18W for the first 5 minutes. Afterwards, the power fluctuates between 11-16W. At 1 hour and 19 minutes, the power stabilizes at around 10W. After 1 hour and 38 minutes, it enters trickle charging until fully charged, taking approximately 2 hours and 25 minutes for the entire charging process.

Let’s move on to the charging data for the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

iPhone 14 Pro Max

When connected to the magnetic module, the handshake voltage is 9V. The power remains stable at around 18W for the first 17 minutes. Afterwards, the power fluctuates between 11-18W. At 1 hour and 8 minutes, the power stabilizes at around 9W. After 1 hour and 29 minutes, it enters trickle charging until fully charged, taking approximately 2 hours and 13 minutes for the entire charging process.

Summarizing the charging data for the iPhone 14 series and plotting it on a line graph, we can observe that the charging time for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro is similar, with only a difference of about 1 minute. The iPhone 14 Pro Max charges fully in approximately 12 minutes faster than the iPhone 14 Plus, even though their battery capacities are similar. It can be said that there are multiple factors influencing the charging time when using the Apple MagSafe charger.

Conclusion

Despite the increase in rated power of chargers, there is no significant improvement in charging performance for the iPhone 14 series. Those who have read the detailed reviews would know that the maximum charging power for the new iPhones is around 27.99W, while the theoretical power of the original MagSafe wireless charger is 15W.

Previously, ChargerLAB conducted comprehensive tests on various parameters and charging performance of the new iPhones, with battery capacity being one of the important factors. For example, the iPhone 14 Pro with the smallest battery capacity takes approximately 1 hour and 53 minutes for wireless charging, while the iPhone 14 Pro Max with the largest battery capacity takes around 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Overall, the wireless charging process for the iPhone 14 series models takes time as shown in the aforementioned data. Please note that specific data may vary depending on the testing environment, and the charging time with the MagSafe wireless charger for iPhones is not stable. Therefore, the provided times are average values and are for reference purposes only.
